A nice idea, but it gets old pretty rapidly. Maybe if I read them one every six months in 1960 in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, I would have been be happier. But reading them one after the other exposes them as a single trick set of stories, featuring unfunny puns, gets old very quickly. Yes, Homes is obtuse, and as the book progresses, he gets more unbelievably obtuse.Product details

I just attempted to read an old copy from the 60s. I have no idea how it got multiple printings.
it's all puns or "Schlock" being an idiot. if it were actually funny, I wouldn't mind about either of those but the 2 stories I made it through before giiving up weren't funny at all.
It's probably not the worse book i've ever attempted to read so it's 2 stars instead of my original 1.
perhaps it was funny back in the day, but it's not now.
Other than spelling and punctuation errors, the stories are fairly well written and are much like Sherlock's stories play out.
One of the best parodies of Sherlock Holmes ever written. Love these stories.
You can't go wrong with these. Very much in Conan Doyle's style but, oh, so funny.
Witty, true to the tone and wording of Conan Doyle and supremely enjoyable. Wish there were more stories to savor.
This was quite amusing at first, but got rather tiring as it went along; a one-trick pony. One story at a time, over a period of time, would have been more palatable. The segments, after the first, were merely the first over and over with dressing changes. Don't read it all at once, as I did.
I thought these would be funny parodies but I didn't find them like that. They just made Holms out to be stupid. I didn't read very much of the book before giving up.
